BSA | The Software Alliance (www.BSA.org) is the leading advocate for the global software industry before governments and in the international marketplace. It is an association of world-class companies that invest billions of dollars annually to create software solutions that spark the economy and improve modern life.

BSA serves as the world's premier association promoting license compliance and a respected leader in shaping public policies that promote technology innovation and drive economic growth.

Through government relations, intellectual property enforcement and software asset management (SAM) activities around the world, BSA protects intellectual property and fosters innovation; works to open markets and ensure fair competition; and builds trust and confidence in information technology for consumers, businesses and governments alike.

BSA ISO-aligned SAM programs:

BSA has always recognized the importance of software asset management (SAM) programs and their positive impact on educating users on the value of software and reducing software piracy. In that regard, BSA offers policies and procedures that may be adapted for organizations looking to manage their software assets. BSA is a category C liaison to the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7 WG 21 working group.

BSA offers SAM Advantage, a first of its kind software asset management training course and certification. The course, which aligns to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines, provides in-depth training on effective management of IT assets - serving as a crucial tool in helping organizations maximize their technology investments. SAM Advantage enables users to build a best practice standards-based SAM program to manage their software assets, increase IT efficiencies, control costs, and identify and reduce IT risks. Upon successfully completing SAM Advantage and its associated assessments, individuals are recognized as Certified in Standards-based SAM for Professionals. The course is fully aligned with the global ISO/IEC 19770-1:2012 software asset management standard. The course is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Russian.

BSA also offers a certification to organizations that have proven their SAM processes align to the ISO SAM standard and are license compliant.

Broadly, the Certified in Standards-based SAM for Organizations, or CSS(O), which is based on the ISO 19770-1 SAM standard, offers organizations assurance that:

• They are following globally recognized best practices
• Processes implemented are comprehensive, addressing the entire software life-cycle
• Processes implemented can be applied uniformly regardless of the organization's software choices
• Processes implemented will allow immediate and sustained license compliance.

The certification conveys the following:
• The organizations SAM processes are independently tested, and aligned to the ISO SAM standard
• Demonstrates reasonable assurance that the organization is compliant with its license position.

Aditional information on CSS(O) is available at www.BSA.org/CSSO.
