19770-1

ISO/IEC 19770-1 is the Software Asset Management process standard. The first generation was published in 2006. It is aligned to Service Management (ISO/IEC 20000-1), and contains 27 process areas, with detailed outcomes defined for each. Conformance is achieved by achieving all detailed outcomes across all 27 process areas.
In 2006 the first published ISO/IEC SAM standard defined outcomes of SAM processes and has received sustained market support.

Major revision now in progress. The above ISO/IEC 19770-1 is currently being revised, to split the 2006 version up into tiers which can be attained sequentially. Standards developments driven by WG21 have already achieved two successive votes by the international standards committee supporting this 19770-1 Revised standard.

Widespread market consultation has been undertaken including strong support from our WG21 liaison organizations - see www.19770.org/Tiered-SAM-Review for further information about the ISO/IEC and itSMF International survey recently undertaken. WG21 would like to thank all four liaison organizations for their ongoing support.

There is also a white paper available about the revision. Please see the 'File Repository' tab of this website to download the file entitled ISO SAM Processes - A Play In Acts.
