Mission Statement-Tag LIfe Cycle Mangement Ad Hoc Group

Creation of tags have been implemented and planned based on the current 19770-2 standard and pending 19770-3 standard. Discussion at the most recent WG21 meeting in Gaithersburg identified a need to further define a full life cycle for the management of tags, and this will be explored by this ad hoc group. The group will examine the case for any further development of such work, which may lead to a NWI proposal for such a tag life cycle management project.

Without managing a created or edited tag (and associated revisions) throughout the tag's lifecycle the overarching benefits of SAM tagging can be greatly diminished or nullified. It is for this reason that it is recognized that the management processes and guidelines for tags throughout their lifecycle needs to be explored and documented further.

This Ad Hoc group is currently a closed group whose members had been designated by the WG 21 at the semi- annual meeting in Maryland. This ad hoc group is being created in order to examine the concept of tag life cycle management. Ideas from several 19770-2 and 19770-3 members expressed at the interim WG21 meeting will be considered by the ad hoc group. It will then be determined what the recommendations for going forward will be.

It is anticipated that a recommendation from the Ad Hoc group to WG 21 will be made by April 2011 to allow discussion at the next WG21 meeting.

7. Dynamic Tagging ( metered or usage based)
